Letter To Prospective Tutors Dear Friend of Literacy, Thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer Tutor with the Anchorage Literacy Project! Enclosed is our Tutor Training Schedule, a current ALP Class Schedule,* and the job descriptions for our Volunteer Tutor and Volunteer Classroom Teacher. We hope this information will help you with your decision to become a Volunteer with ALP. The commitment is substantial, as is the reward, when you help another person learn to read, write, or speak English. We ask participants to register at least three weeks prior to the start of the workshop. Please pick the class you would like to observe from the enclosed ALP Class Schedule and call us. Following the class observation we will sign you up for a short interview with the staff member who will be responsible for matching you with a student or class. The registration fee of $35 covers the cost of the Tutor Training Handbook, Teacher Resource book, one-year membership to ALP, and a six-month membership to ProLiteracy Worldwide (scholarship help is available for volunteers who are not able to pay this cost). For those who want to take the training, but who will not be working with an ALP student, the cost is $350. We look forward to working with you in our efforts to help others in the Anchorage community improve their literacy skills.
