Changing lives through literacy

The Anchorage Literacy Project (ALP) is a non-profit educational organization located in Anchorage, Alaska that is dedicated to improving the lives of adults and their families by helping to build their literacy skills.  We offer direct literacy services for adults—native-born citizens and recent immigrants alike—through on-site classes and one-on-one tutoring.  We also train community members to become teachers and tutors.

This site is for literacy learners, literacy volunteers and literacy advocates:

  •  If you would like to know more about the classes and other instruction we offer for help with reading, writing, spelling, speaking, and math click on Programs.

  •  If you want to become a volunteer or contribute to our organization, click on How To Help.  There are many ways to offer your time, talents and resources.

  •  If you are a current volunteer classroom teacher or tutor or someone who is active in the field of Adult Basic Education or English as a Second Language (ESL), we’ve assembled a collection of useful sites under Resources.
